Safeguarding is one of the most important responsibilities within health, social care, and children's services. It is about protecting people from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and harm, while promoting their wellbeing, safety, and rights.

Whether supporting a child, a young person, an adult with care and support needs, or an older person, safeguarding is not the responsibility of one individual or department alone. It is a shared responsibility that requires vigilance, professionalism, and a commitment from everyone involved in a person's care and support.
At Moonrise, safeguarding is embedded in everything we do. We are committed to creating safe environments where individuals can thrive, knowing they are protected, respected, and supported.
What Is Safeguarding?
Safeguarding refers to the measures put in place to protect children and adults who may be vulnerable to abuse, neglect, discrimination, exploitation, or other forms of harm.
Effective safeguarding is about more than responding to concerns. It also involves preventing harm before it occurs by promoting wellbeing, recognising risks, and ensuring individuals have access to the support they need.
Every person has the right to live free from abuse and neglect, and safeguarding helps ensure those rights are upheld.
Recognising the Signs
Safeguarding concerns can take many forms and are not always immediately obvious. Abuse and neglect can be physical, emotional, sexual, financial, organisational, or the result of neglect and self-neglect.
Because care professionals often work closely with individuals, they are in a unique position to notice changes in behaviour, wellbeing, appearance, or circumstances that may indicate a concern.
This is why ongoing training, awareness, and professional curiosity are so important. Knowing what to look for and how to respond can make a significant difference in protecting someone from harm.
Safeguarding Children and Young People
Children and young people rely on the adults around them to provide protection, guidance, and support. Creating safe environments where children feel listened to and valued is essential to their wellbeing and development.
Safeguarding children involves recognising risks, responding appropriately to concerns, and working in partnership with families, professionals, and agencies to promote positive outcomes.
At Moonrise Children and Young People's Services, safeguarding is at the centre of our approach. We strive to create nurturing environments where children feel safe, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Safeguarding Adults
Adults with care and support needs may be at increased risk of abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Effective safeguarding ensures that adults are supported to make informed choices while maintaining their dignity, independence, and rights.
In domiciliary care and supported living settings, safeguarding means remaining alert to concerns, respecting individual wishes, and taking appropriate action when necessary.
At Moonrise, we are committed to ensuring that every adult we support receives care in a safe, respectful, and empowering environment.
Creating a Culture of Safety
Safeguarding is most effective when it becomes part of an organisation's culture. This means ensuring staff receive appropriate training, understand their responsibilities, and feel confident in raising concerns.
At Moonrise, safeguarding training forms a key part of staff development, helping our teams understand how to recognise, report, and respond to concerns appropriately. We encourage open communication, accountability, and a proactive approach to protecting those we support.
Everyone Has a Role to Play
Safeguarding is not solely the responsibility of managers, designated leads, or external agencies. It is everyone's responsibility.
By remaining vigilant, listening to concerns, following procedures, and always putting the wellbeing of individuals first, we can all contribute to safer environments for children, young people, and adults.
At Moonrise, we are proud of our commitment to safeguarding across all of our services. Through robust policies, ongoing training, and a culture of care and accountability, we work every day to ensure the people we support feel safe, respected, and protected.
Because safeguarding is not just a procedure—it is a commitment to protecting the wellbeing and dignity of every individual in our care.
